The Jewish Publication Society continues its reputation for delivering accessible scholarship and commentary on the Jewish Bible.

The Jewish Bible: A JPS Guide also provides additional non-Jewish perspectives on the bible. Interwoven within the commentary are examples, both in text and illustrations, of how different faiths understand the compilation and order of the books of the bible.

The commentary begins with a brief analysis of the origins of what we know as the final canon. In subsequent chapters the authors delve into the various sections, such as law, poetry, and storytelling in greater detail to give us a deeper understanding of how all the parts come together in a coherent whole.

There are additional sections on the development and use of Midrash and how it has been used over the centuries to understand the meaning of the biblical text. The final sections are a glossary of terms and other information that can help both the novice and experienced bible student in their exploration of the text. This is an excellent text for adult study groups and high school students beginning their study into the mysteries and wisdom of the Jewish Bible.
