Torture Is a Moral Issue is a collection of essays that explore essential questions related to torture. The purpose of the book is to view torture exclusively through the prism of morality.

There is so much material to cover and so little literature written thus far on the subject, that this book does double duty — as an introduction to the study of these issues and as a definitive source about them.

The book is divided into five sections, each capable of standing on its own. The sections concerning the background and the fundamentals of torture help frame the broader question. It is here that the editors provide valuable historical perspective. Other sections discuss various religions’ approaches to torture. These sections will be enormously helpful to any reader looking for a single-volume approach to Christian, Jewish, and/or Muslim attitudes toward torture.

Hunsinger aimed high in Torture Is a Moral Issue. He secured essays by serious thinkers from a variety of academic fields and brought them together. This book is a significant contribution to several disciplines, most especially religious studies and the study of ethics and morality.
