Science, religion, and the law have a common basis: trust. Polytheistic religions find their gods doing all the things we humans do — misleading, deceiving, cajoling, seducing, competing — only somewhat better; monotheistic religions require consistency the essence of trust. Trust traces the development of trust from Hebrew origins and Christian refinement through valuable contributions from Islam, and from there to science. Law both sacred and secular respects the same logical rubric that is reflected in monotheism. Trust examines the Ten Commandments as a blueprint for a trustworthy community and concludes with suggestions for our cultural and genetic future.
