R. S. Steinberg studied linguistics and Middle English poetry before going on to medicine and the practice of orthopaedic surgery. After an injury ended his career, he turned to writing fiction and personal essays which have been published in Fiction, Bananafish, Mulberry Fork Review, The Boston Globe and elsewhere. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife.
