This is the nineteenth novel in the bestselling series featuring the beloved team of Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus. Decker is a homicide lieutenant with the LAPD and his wife, Rina, has always helped him solve his cases. The plots always include interesting snippets from their observant Jewish home life and details about the couple’s four grown children. In this book we hear about Peter’s daughter, Cindy, who is also a cop helping out with the case, and Hannah, Rina and Peter’s teenage daughter, as well as the usual cast of characters on Peter’s loyal team of detectives. The brutal murders of a billionaire, his wife, and four employees on their gigantic estate make headlines and have so many possible angles that following all the leads gets a bit confusing. The story also involves many Spanish-speaking suspects and takes us into Mexico, but as the mystery unravels the characters become easier to follow. Rina’s selection as a juror despite her close connection to the LAPD, and her coincidental conversations during breaks in the courthouse, tie in too neatly to Decker’s case. However, Decker/Lazarus fans will surely enjoy this newest addition to the long running series.
