Divided into eight sections, one for each night of celebration, here are child-friendly recipes for a fun and tasty Hanukkah. Rounding out the menus: the story of Hanukkah, blessings (in English, Hebrew and transliteration), helpful kitchen tips, fun facts about the holiday, games, craft s and more. It’s an easy-to-use, colorfully illustrated resource. The recipes are simple and inviting if not always exciting — although the connection of some of them to Hanukkah (hot dog mini-kebabs? fondue?) is questionable. While not an essential Hanukkah title, this is a nice addition to homes and libraries, inviting children’s active participation in the festivities. Recommended for ages 7 – 12.

INGREDIENTS
12 oz. bag cranberries
¾ c. water
1 c. raisins
½ c. orange juice
2 c. sugar
1 c. flour
2 eggs
Vegetable oil for frying
Whipped cream or non-dairy topping
1. In large pot simmer cranberries in water until they pop.
2. Add raisins, juice, and sugar, mixing well. Boil until mixture thickens (about 15 minutes). Cool.
3. Stir in flour and eggs.
4. Heat oil in large frying pan over low flame. Drop batter by tablespoons and flatten with back of spoon. As latkes can burn easily, turn often until both sides are lightly browned and still soft .
5. Drain on paper towels. Serve with whipped topping.
