The How Did It Happen?” series provides a straightforward guide to major turning points in modern history, and includes quotations from speeches, letters, diaries, contemporary photographs, personal quotes, and opinions from various historians. It also includes a glossary, chronology, bibliography and index. As the publisher has previously published thoughtful, reflective, comprehensive histories of the Holocaust, it is certainly their right to draw from these, simplifying and shortening the text without distorting it. In other words, this is a respectable summary of the Holocaust with large photographs and reduced text — rather like a historical Cliff’s Notes” of the Holocaust. Ages 10 and up.
