In Resurrection Bay, a picturesque Alaskan town, Rabbi Chani Kahn is channeling her considerable energy into building a vibrant Jewish community — despite her private burden of family secrets. Marc Cohn, a recently widowed egocentric and Jewishly disinterested Miami Beach cosmetic surgeon visits the area for a family celebration with his troubled adolescent son Max, who emerges from his problems primarily through his relationship with his Alaskan relatives and responsibilities in a Jewish-owned Iditarod sled dog kennel. Marc’s life changes as a result of an unexpected experience at the local maximum-security prison as well as the religious inspiration he discovers under Chani’s influence, leading Marc on an extraordinary journey through Florida and Israel. His transformation forces Rabbi Kahn to reexamine many of her own firm beliefs. Resurrection Bay focuses on the importance of love, healing, spirituality and forgiveness within the context of Judaism and Tikkun Olam.
