Louis Schmier, a native New Yorker and Professor of History, Emeritus, Valdosta State University, is the recipient of many grants which allowed him to author numerous scholarly works dealing with the Southern Jewish Experience. He is a Danforth Foundation Fellow, Marguerite R. Jacobs Fellow, American Jewish Committee Fellow, Edison Foundation Scholar, and one of the founders of the Southern Jewish Historical Society.
