With ances­tral roots from Greece and Mace­do­nia (via Medieval Spain) Amer­i­can-born Sarah Aroeste works to pre­serve Ladi­no (Judeo-Span­ish) cul­ture for a new audi­ence. An inter­na­tion­al com­pos­er and per­former and now chil­dren’s book author Aroeste has released sev­er­al Ladi­no record­ings com­bin­ing tra­di­tion­al Mediter­ranean Sephardic fla­vors with her sig­na­ture con­tem­po­rary style. Her award-win­ning orig­i­nal Ladi­no chil­dren’s project Ora de Des­per­tar has helped trans­form and revi­tal­ize a tradition.
